Sunday 20th April: Earth Day Poster Making

Spend some time collecting natural materials from the garden and nature trails, then put your heads together to design and make a poster celebrating Earth Day.

Sunday 4th May: Dawn Chorus Walk
Time: 4.30am – 8.00am
Join us around the nature trails at the crack of dawn and witness Galloway’s exceptional birdlife welcoming the new day with song.  Rounds up with a well-deserved hot drink and a light breakfast at the visitor centre.

Sunday 11th May: Tree Trail
Time: 10.00am –12.00 noon
Learn about our native trees and forests and find out what we’ve done to help regenerate them.  Join the Ranger around the nature trails to enjoy the woodlands young and old.

Sunday 18th May: Birdsong and Wildflower Walk
Time: 9.00am 12 noon
Join the Scottish Wildlife Trust for a walk around our nature trails, learning about the birdsong which echoes through the woods and the seasonal wildflowers which brighten every corner of the trails.

Wednesday 28th May: Wildlife Photography Workshop
Time: 1.00pm – 5.00pm
Join Galloway wildlife photographer and writer Keith Kirk for an introduction to the use of digital cameras in capturing wildlife.  A short presentation will be followed by a walk around Cream o’ Galloway’s nature trails and the chance to put your skills to the test.  Resulting photographs can then be discussed over tea and coffee at the visitor centre.  Ideal for beginners or for those who wish to learn some new tricks of the trade.

Time: 8.30pm – 10.30pm
Learn about the mysterious ways of bats with slides, fun activities and games.  Follow it up with some real bat-spotting in the woods.

Monday 11th – Sunday 17th June: Wildlife Week Species Hunt
Pick up a checklist of wildlife species found at Cream o’ Galloway, then see how many you can discover yourself on our nature trails.  All entrants will be entered into a prize draw at the end of the week, and new species will be added to our database.

Bring: Walking boots, weatherproof clothes, binoculars/guidebooks if you have them.

Sunday 13th July: Moth Morning
Time: 10am – 11am
Discover what flies by night at Cream o’ Galloway by investigating moth traps with the Scottish Wildlife Trust’s Ella McLellan

Bring:  Outdoor clothes, moth identification guide if you have one.

Every Tuesday & Thursday in July & August: Pond Dipping and Bug Hunting
Time: 12 noon– 12.45pm
Try your hand at pond dipping and take a closer look at the creatures that spend their lives underwater.  Search the garden plants for bugs and beasties to discover their many hiding places.

Costs: £2.50 per child, adults free.
Bring: Wellington boots and waterproof clothes if you have them.

Monday 27th October: Fungi Walk
Time: 2.00pm – 4.00pm
Join Dumfries and Galloway Biodiversity Officer Peter Norman for a walk around the trails to look for the weird and wonderful fungi which share the landscape with us.  Suitable for beginners.
