Rare sighting of wildcat at Speyside Wildlife hide in Cairngorms

A rare sighting has been recorded of a Scottish wildcat at Speyside Wildlife‘s wildlife hide on Rothiemurchus Estate on Sunday night (25th May 2008).

These elusive animals are rarely seen and this is a particular treat for the wildlife-watchers in the hide located in Cairngorms National Park in the Scottish Highlands.

The sighting is particularly timely, as there is double focus on Scotland’s only wild feline at the moment. The BBC’s popular natural history series, Springwatch has managed to film wildcats in the Cairngorms National Park which will be excellent in raises the profile of this endangered animal.

There is also a Scotland-wide Wildcat Survey being undertaken by Wild Scotland director Adrian Davis of Wildoutdoors. The survey is attempting to gauge the number of animals remaining by asking people to report sightings.
