Scottish Seabird Centre Winter Festival – a first for North Berwick

There’s an exciting programme of events lined up for the big Winter Festival weekend at the Seabird Centre from 12th-14th December, featuring log cabins with local food and drink and crafts, carnival fairground and a traditional Santa’s grotto.

Over the weekend there are lots of special events taking place, including a visit from Santa’s team of huskies, a chance to meet Rudolph, on a visit from the Scottish Deer Centre, the Cairndinnis Alpacas and on Sunday afternoon, there are horse and carriage rides, in a vintage carriage for 4-6 people, pulled by two shire horses, which will take people around North Berwick to see the sights and the shopping. Santa will also be riding in his own carriage through North Berwick on Saturday on his way to the festival.

The festival is being organised by the Seabird Centre to attract people from the Lothians, Edinburgh and the Borders to visit North Berwick in the lead up to Christmas – a beautiful relaxing setting by the sea, with an excellent choice of Christmas shopping – individual shops and award-winning restaurants, delicatessens and independent wine merchants, galleries, fashion boutiques, sweet shops and craft and gift shops.

It is hoped that the festival will grow, in future years. The Seabird Centre is supporting East Lothian’s Shop Local campaign and will be working with local businesses to promote what’s going on in North Berwick through Christmas and New Year. (The Seabird Centre is open every day, except Christmas day – see the website www.seabird.org or call 01620 890202 for special opening times and more information).
