Launch of New Boat for Craignish Cruises

Wildlife boat trips are taking on a new dimension today when Wild Scotland member, Craignish Cruises launch their new 12 metre passenger boat.

Sea Leopard II, a brand new British-built catamaran, will be launched into the beautiful Loch Craignish near Lochgilphead. The boat can take up to 60 passengers and will be run by experienced owner-skipper Lindsay Johnston and co-owner Archie MacDonald of Craignish Cruises.

To mark the occasion a bottle of ‘Corryvreckan’ whisky, which last year took the coveted title of  ‘whisky of the year’ for Islay distillers Ardbeg, will be sacrificed to break over the vessel’s bow.

Lindsay Johnston said, “we have adapted the vessel as far as possible within MCA regulations for people with limited mobility and who require wheelchair access. The boat makes an idea platform for photography, viewing wildife, and seeing the Corryvreckan, the third largest whirlpool in the world, in all her moods.”

A typical three hour Corryvreckan and wildlife trip will regularly come across an abundance of seals, porpoises, gannets, guillemots, terns and shags as well as a resident sea eagle.
