The Cairngorms’ Logistical Conundrum Solved: Walking the Lairig Ghru Made Easy!

Scot Mountain Holidays logoWild Scotland Scot Mountain Holidays have solved the problem faced by many walkers wishing to walk the spectacular Lairig Ghru pass in the Cairngorms National Park by offering a 2 night self-guided package which includes transfers to the start and from the finish of the route.

Every year many walkers are inspired to walk Scotland’s most dramatic mountain pass, the Lairig Ghru, yet the logistics aren’t simple. The 19 mile linear route cuts through the heart of high Cairngorm splendour. Lining the way are Britain’s 2nd, 3rd 4th and 5th highest peaks, their flanks rising a further 2500ft (800m) in a complex series of deep corries, precipitous slopes and cliffs. It’s an awe inspiring place and with a high point at over 2700ft (835m) it’s a worthy challenge. It is, quite simply, one of Britain’s finest walking routes.

The real difficulty though is how do you get back around to your car at the start? There’s no direct linking public transport. Unless you’ve a support team, you’re committed to spending the next day making a massive 190 mile detour via Aberdeen on a whole series of bus, train and taxi journeys. Between May and September, Scot Mountain Holidays will drop you off and pick you up at the end.

The package cost £190 per person and includes:

  • 2 nights accommodation at the comfortable Fraoch Lodge,
  • Rebecca’s delicious home cooking from the evening meal on the day of arrival through until breakfast on the morning of departure including Cake O’clock.
  • Maps and route advice from an experienced local guide, Andy
  • Transport around to the start of the route at Linn of Dee and pick-up at the end of the walk
  • Free transfers from Inverness Airport/Aviemore Station
