The award-winning visitor attraction, and conservation and education charity, the Scottish Seabird Centre, has launched its 2014 photography competition. The Scottish Seabird Centre Nature Photography Awards are in their ninth year and attract entries from amateur photographers locally, nationally and internationally.

The awards seek to identify the best photographic talent from all age groups as well as encouraging people to interact with the natural world in a sustainable way. Winning photographers have the opportunity to secure prizes including trips to the Isle of May National Nature Reserve; memberships for the Scottish Seabird Centre and Scottish Wildlife Trust; vouchers for Northshots Photography and day-long wildlife trips courtesy of Isle of Mull Wildlife Expeditions.

Following the success of last year’s awards, which had the highest number of entries to-date with 525 images submitted, the judges are Scottish Natural Heritage’s award-winning photographer Lorne Gill, professional freelance photographer Graham Riddell and Scottish Field Editor Richard Bath.

The deadline for entries is Sunday 19 October: following this, the judges will meet to decide on a shortlist in each category. The shortlist will then be on display in the Seabird Centre and online for the public to cast their vote until Sunday 22 February 2015. In each category there will be a winner selected by the judges and winner selected by the voting public.
