Award-winning attractions join claws for new exhibition

Lobster Hatchery exhibition

The Scottish Seabird Centre is collaborating with The Firth of Forth Lobster Hatchery to host the Hatchery’s winter exhibition, Tomorrow’s Lobsters. The exhibition will run until March 2017.

Tomorrow’s Lobsters explores the importance of lobsters, both locally and nationally, as a vital part of the marine environment.

Visitors can discover how The Firth of Forth Lobster Hatchery works to sustain lobster populations in the Forth, helping to ensure the livelihood of local fishermen.

There’s the chance to explore the lifecycle of lobsters, the challenges each one faces to reach adulthood and find out how a V-Notch can help local lobster populations. Live lobsters and video footage brings the world of the lobster to life, as visitors can see what happens in the Hatchery’s seasonal containers at North Berwick Harbour.

Jane McMinn, Director of The Firth of Forth Lobster Hatchery, said: “The Hatchery at North Berwick Harbour is open from Easter to October, so it made perfect sense to extend our season with an exhibition hosted in conjunction with our neighbours at the Seabird Centre.

“The aim of the exhibition is to inform and educate people about the lobster’s lifecycle and the journey we are undertaking to re-populate the Firth of Forth with a sustainable source of lobsters. There’s something for young and old, so we hope to welcome lots of lobster fans over the winter months.”

Tom Brock OBE, Chief Executive of the Scottish Seabird Centre, said: “With their focus on education and sustainability, this collaboration was a really excellent fit for the Seabird Centre. The work the Hatchery team undertake is very impressive.

“This excellent exhibition by the Hatchery further highlights the importance of the marine environment and wildlife, and it is great to offer our visitors something new and different for the winter season. There are also some excellent Lobster Hatchery items for sale in the Centre’s gift shop.”

Included with admission to the Discovery Centre and FREE for Seabird Members.
