In 2016 Caledonian Discovery’s barge ‘Fingal of Caledonia’, was used in the making of the film, “The Dark Mile”
The ‘Dark Mile’ is a tense psychological horror-thriller, the film uses the Caledonian Canal and the Great Glen as the backdrop to the story line. The props department from the film company did an amazing piece of work in converting the look of the barge. They changed “Fingal” from its bright, colourful look, to an image that fitted the requirements of the film, in a matter of days.
Then on the last Tuesday in June, at the World Premiere of the film, the red carpet at the Edinburgh International Film Festival welcomed the four skippers involved in the making of the film, Martin Balcombe, Swampy Dave Roberts, Charlie Menzies and Brian Williamson. The question has to be asked – shortly before the release it was suggested that Johnny Depp, Capt. Jack Sparrow of the film franchise “Pirates of the Caribbean”, was wishing to move to Inverness from Los Angeles. Was he sensing some competition?
