Galloway Forest Park is 300 square miles of mixed landscape in the heart of Dumfries and Galloway in the south of Scotland. The park is owned and managed by Forestry Commission Scotland and there’s plenty for visitors to enjoy.
There are three visitor centres at Kirroughtree, Glentrool and Clatteringshaws as well as 27 waymarked trails and an events programme.
In 2009, the park became the UK’s first Dark Sky Park. Announced in the International Year of Astronomy, it is one of the best places in the UK to watch the stars from. For more information about the award and also any Dark Sky events at the park, click here.
