Scottish Wildlife Trust Falls of Clyde Visitor Centre
Visitor Centre Manager (maternity cover)

Duration: Full-time post for 6-12 months
Salary:  £17,000 - £19,000 per annum
Based: Falls of Clyde Visitor Centre, Falls of Clyde Wildlife Reserve, Lanark

We are seeking to appoint a Visitor Centre Manager (maternity cover) to manage one of the Trust’s flagship visitor centres. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management of this first class visitor experience, and will ensure that an excellent customer care service is provided to its 20,000 annual visitors. Duties include the promotion of the Scottish Wildlife Trust (both locally and nationally), the responsibility for maximising income from the visitor centre (through sales and membership recruitment), the responsibility for managing a programme of events and visitor activities, and the line management of the Visitor Centre Assistant and supervision of volunteers.

Experience in working in the tourism, retail or service industry is essential. Experience of working to targets and within budgets, face-to-face membership recruitment, working with volunteers, written and oral communication skills, and an enthusiasm for wildlife would be desirable, as is a current UK driving licence.

Scottish Wildlife Trust Loch of the Lowes Visitor Centre
Visitor Centre Assistant

Duration: 28 hours per week, 12 month contract
Salary: c£13k pro rata

Working with the Visitor Centre Manager the post-holder will provide a first class customer care service and be responsible for the day-to-day running of the reception and exhibition areas.  Other tasks include:
•    maximising membership opportunities and sales
•    promote the work of SWT
•    assist in organising and running events
•    supervise volunteer programmes
•    deputise for the Visitor Centre Manager

Experience in working in the tourist/retail/service industry, financial record keeping, working with volunteers and membership recruitment is desirable.   Excellent communication skills are essential, and an enthusiasm for wildlife and knowledge of the local area would be advantageous.  A current UK driving licence is desirable.

Cream o Galloway Visitor Centre Guide and Countryside Ranger
  • Outgoing, welcoming person with an interest in the environment, farming and food required to interpret the Cream o Galloway visitor centre to children and adults and undertake general maintenance in our playground and nature trails.  Experience in leading groups and Health & Safety essential.  Must be competent to at least intermediate level in the use of Microsoft Office! Volunteer Researchers - Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust
  • The Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust (HWDT) carries out visual and acoustic cetacean surveys off the West Coast of Scotland every summer from their research vessel, Silurian and is looking for paying volunteers to help with the research. Volunteers are involved in all aspects of the research, and will receive full training in survey techniques. No specific experience is required to work as a volunteer onboard, however you should have basic computing skills and be proficient in the English language.
